I Want To Be A Soldier is the story of Alex, an eight year old boy fascinated with violence on TV, and his struggle to find his way through his parents and school life with the help of his imaginary friends, Astronaut Captain Harry and his alter ego, Sergeant John Cluster.
Alex is very jealous now that his twin brothers have arrived at the scene. His parents lavish all their attention at the newborn and Alex, hurt, blames the twins for al his problems and finds that the only good thing about the babies being born is that he is getting something he?s desperately wanted for a long time: a TV in his room. When his parents finally buy him one, Alex begins to discover a world that captivates him. He is fascinated by everything he sees broadcasted on the screen. The catalyzing event is Alex's relationship of obsession with the darkest programs on television and violent video games. This unnatural influence over the boy is pushing him closer and closer to becoming a child soldier in his own imaginary army. Gradually, his dream of becoming an astronaut, induced by the friendship of his imaginary friend, Captain Harry, fade towards the applied day-to-day practical teachings of Sergeant John Cluster, an American soldier who seems to be lifted from a war film. John Cluster shows Alex that violence is the best weapon of all, not only in warfare, but in everyday life too.

When Alex teacher asks the class to write an essay about what they want to be when they grow old, Alex unleashes a drama throughout his essay titled: ? I Want To Be A Soldier? that translate into a spiral of violence. Alex, begins to pick on Max, his best friend, and joins in with Eric and Rodri, usual troublemaker suspects of his class. Desperate, his teacher recommends Alex parents to take him to the Psychologist and after doing so, Alex tries hard to become a good person.

In a turn of events, Alex parents compromise his willingness to change when tension arise between them. Fighting parents coupled with lack of attention, drives him to fall under more influence of the notorious Sergeant John Cluster and so, Alex efforts to change tumble when Alex parents decide to separate, catapulting Alex rage in his behavior.
